Everyone Loves a Parade


Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start of summer.  Parades and other special events are meant to commemorate the day we remember our fallen war heroes. But throughout this three-day weekend you can find all sorts of fun things to do.

SATURDAY

Memorial Day Parade @ Essex Junction - If your town doesn't march for Memorial Day then head to Essex Junction. Their parade is mighty fine.  Beginning at 9:00, Five Corners partially closes so onlookers can get good seats. BYO.

Meet the Lake Monsters Baseball Players @ Fletcher Free Library - Baseball season in Vermont just around the corner. June 22 is opening day for the Lake Monsters. Little Fans can come to the Library and get their caps and balls signed after they hear a story read by their favorite player.

Memorial Day Parade and Spring Festival @ Hardwick - A 90 minute parade (holy marching) that includes the Bread and Puppet theatre is followed by a family carnival and BBQ.

How do Sailboats Use the Wind @ ECHO - The Lake Champlain Community Sailing Center Staff ties in a lesson about wind, ECHO's newest exhibit, at 11:00 and 1:00.

SUNDAY

Season Opening and “Hammer-In” @ the Maritime Museum - The Maritime Museum opens its doors for the season with an exhibit called "Discover 1609", their Champlain Quadricentennial timeline exhibit.

MONDAY

Memorial Day Parade @ Middlebury - Catch this parade at 9:00 with our very own Governor Douglas marching in it. Also lots of Bagpipers, marching bands, blues bands and floats will be part of the procession. Afterwards head to Vergennes to catch the next celebratory procession.

Memorial Day Parade @ St. Johnsbury - Wreath laying service at 9:00 with the parade beginning at 10:00.

Memorial Day Parade @ St. Albans - 11:00 parade with Chicken BBQ afterwards at the Legion.

Memorial Day Parade @ Vergennes - Park yourselves on the green to get a good view of this parade.

Memorial Day Parade @ Jericho - This parade begins at 11:00 at Clark's Truck Center in Jericho, heads down Route 15 and ends at the cemetery in Underhill with a memorial service.
 

LOOKING AHEAD

Memorial Day Parade @ Georgia - On Saturday, May 30th the parade begins at 9:00. Post parade festivities include a concert by the Glen Family Pipers.
